CBD INFORMATION

Hemp has been used for literally thousands of years. An amazingly versatile plant, Hemp has been used for its fibres, seeds and flowers – all of which have a vast variety of uses.

While the mainstream media has unfortunately negatively targeted Hemp for decades now, it is a fact that up until the early 1900’s, Hemp was used as an active ingredient in many medicines of the time. Even Queen Victoria was prescribed Hemp by her doctor. If it is good enough for a Queen, it is good enough for us!

Fortunately, in recent years the awareness to its usefulness has grown and grown. The internet and books have opened the floodgates to a vast knowledgebase and people are benefitting throughout the world.

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

A more recent discovery, the human endocannabinoid system – is where Cannabidiol (CBD) has become of particular interest. It is now accepted that humans, as well as most other living things on Earth – all have an endocannabinoid system. This system is a group of receptors in both the brain and the nervous system which regulates a huge variety of processes – including appetite, mood, memory function and pain-sensation. CBD and other cannabinoids interact with these receptors.

The modern-day lifestyle many of us lead, as well as natural ageing, means our endocannabinoid system can become imbalanced, which can affect many things in our bodies.

Maintaining a balanced lifestyle is one of the main ways we can naturally keep ourselves healthy and combat these drains on our bodies – and our CBD makes a fantastic addition to help promote this.

Although CBD is the main cannabinoid in our products – our Co2 extraction process also brings out many other cannabinoids, terpenes and naturally occurring compounds found in Hemp. Our extracts are like natural powerhouses all working together in synergy to provide a truly remarkable food supplement. It is well worth a read into the many other cannabinoids found in Hemp oil.

In truth, we could be here all day talking about the many amazing aspects of our products here at CBD Body. We accept that many of you will be here, already knowing about CBD and its many benefits. For those of you who do have any other questions or would like to learn further – as always – we are here to help.

Dosage Advice

Dosing advice regarding CBD Oil is quite a grey area.

Technically, no unqualified person, organisation or company is permitted to provide advice. Unfortunately, at the time of writing, there are no qualified bodies currently in existence, hence the challenge we all face! Speaking practically, if you buy something, you’re going to want to know how to use it. So, take the below under advisement and if you’re unsure of anything, or you would like further information, speak to your doctor, pharmacist or another qualified medical professional.

If you have concerns over the effects of CBD oil, rest assured that according to a preliminary WHO (World Health Organisation) report published in 2017, naturally occurring CBD is safe and well tolerated in humans (and animals), and is not associated with any negative public health effects. There is also no risk of addiction or abuse potential.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at three main schools of thought regarding dosages:

Start low

Start on a low dose and increase weekly until you notice results. This generally involves weeks to months of trial and error. This approach is best if you want to take things more gradually and if cost is a particular focus.

Start higher

Start with a higher dose to reach optimum results faster, then reduce your dose down until your desired benefits lessen, establishing your sweet spot quickly. This is typically adopted by those who wish to gain benefits at maximum pace with less focus on cost.

“Stake in the Ground”

The third option is what I call the “Stake in the Ground” method. For every 1 pound you weigh, take 0.5mg of CBD per day. So, if you weigh 10 stone (140lbs), you would start by taking 70mg of CBD daily.

In practice, most people start on an 8% or 10% oil, dropping 5 drops under their tongue, twice daily. The fortunate ones feel a difference within 2-3 days; most will notice some results within 10+ days and for the rest it will take up to 21 days. That is a reflection of our tolerance based on biological factors which we don’t have the capacity to discover until we begin our journey. My number one piece of advice is this: decide on your approach, stick to it consistently for 21 days before making an appraisal, then make the appropriate adjustments up or down the oil strengths. One recommendation is to list three goals, score them between 1 and 10 on a daily, or 7-day basis (e.g. quality of sleep is poor, so give it a score of 3, with a target to improve to 7 or 8) and use that record to help you track your success.

Once you have chosen a dosing strategy that suits your budget and bio and you’ve stuck with it consistently for 21 days while keeping a record of your achievements, you are ideally placed to move to the ‘tinkering stage’. This will allow you to tweak your dosage based on your experience of managing your condition.
